GC Services

GC Services – we believe it is better to fight your charges & fines

Did you get a collection letter?  A letter from GC Services demanding payment of a huge fine for traffic tickets?

Do you need your license back? We specialize in helping people get their suspended license back without having to pay GC Services any money! (As long as you have never seen the Judge in Court about your ticket.)

Would you prefer not to pay? We offer an alternative to paying GC Services that big fine if your ticket was in Los Angeles County. We have helped a lot of people get their license back without having to pay GC Services the money they demand.

What is GC Services?

GC Services Limited Partnership (“GC Services”) is a private collection agency in North America.

GC Services is used by the Los Angeles County Superior Court to try to collect money from delinquent (unpaid) traffic tickets. GC Services receives cases when:-

  • The traffic ticket has not been paid by the due date on the ticket
  • A court appearance date was missed
  • After an appearance in front of a judge in court, a fine was not paid or community service was not done by the due date.

PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NOT ASSOCIATED WITH GC SERVICES, GC SERVICES LP, THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY SUPERIOR COURTHOUSE OR DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES IN ANY MANNER.

WE ARE A LAW OFFICE dedicated to helping people with their suspended license and traffic ticket problems and providing information on people’s rights and options with their traffic tickets OUT OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY CALIFORNIA ONLY.

How to handle a demand letter from GC SERVICES

As long as you have not already been in front of a Judge, it is sometimes better that you DO NOT PAY the amount GC Services is seeking from you and instead get a court date in front of a judge and try to correct and/or fight the violations & lower the fine. We can attend court on your behalf, should you not wish to attend so that you do not have to miss work.

In many cases, this is your best option.  However keep in mind, since the Los Angeles County Superior Court has stopped selling DMV Abstracts (as of April 6, 2015), this sometimes makes it harder for some people to clear up their license quickly.  It can put people in a difficult position – either you pay GC Services the big fine amount to clear up the hold on your license, or you schedule a new court date which can be a couple of months away to see the Judge in order to try and fight your charges, get the fine lowered and your license hold cleared. See: Hold on Your License

If your ticket is in Los Angeles County, and you have never been in front of a judge about your ticket, then call us. We will discuss what your best options are.

Did you receive a letter from the DMV?

If you have received a letter from the DMV stating that the DMV is going to suspend your license very soon because you failed to appear in court for this ticket, please call us immediately (310) 285-1516 as we often can use this DMV letter to see a Judge right away for you. We usually can clear up your license in 24 to 48 hours and before the suspension date so your license does not get suspended on the date listed in the DMV letter sent to you.

We offer an alternative to paying GC Services that big fine if your ticket was in Los Angeles County. Call us on (310) 285-1516 for a free legal consultation if you have never been in front of a judge about your ticket.

How to Pay GC Services

If you have a Failure to Pay previously called “Matter Set for Compliance” (see below) or you have no option but to pay GC Services, we recommend that you pay them in person at the GC Services Court Window rather than over the phone.

GC Services Court Window

If you are going to pay GC Services, we recommend that you pay them in person at the GC Services court window rather than over the phone.  This may optimize your chances of clearing up your license faster.

There is a GC Services window at every Los Angeles Traffic Court. Do not wait in the traffic ticket clerk line, because they will not help you if your ticket is in collections with GC Services. You must wait in line at the GC Services window.

Failure To Appear: At the GC Services window, if you have a Failure To Appear (FTA), you can request a court date to see a judge, unless you have already appeared before a judge.

Failure To Pay: If you have a Failure To Pay (FTP), since you have already appeared in front of a Judge, the court will not allow you to get another court date to see a judge; if your license is suspended because of this ticket, in our opinion your only option is to pay the fine to get your license back.

We recommend you get a guarantee from GC Services

Recommendation: If you are paying GC Services to clear up your license hold, be aware that it may take some time for them to clear up your driver’s license. If you pay GC Services, make sure you get a guarantee that they will clear the DMV Hold on your license, because you don’t want to make a payment to GC Services and then find out that your license hold has not been cleared up.

It is sometimes better to fight the charges & fines than pay GC Services

A lot of people call up GC Services to pay off their traffic ticket fine just to get it over with. We believe the better approach may be  to try to get a court date to fight the charges and fines and try to keep the violations and DMV points off your DMV driver record.

We offer an alternative to paying that big fine to GC Services if your ticket was in Los Angeles County. If you have not seen a Judge regarding your ticket:-

  • We can remove your traffic ticket from the control of GC Services so you do not have to pay GC Services anything.
  • We can oftentimes clear up your license so you can drive again with a valid driver’s license.
  • We can appear in court in your place to fight all the fines, charges, and any DMV points you are facing from your ticket.

Please call us at (310)285-1516 to discuss.

Note: We cannot help you if you have already seen a judge in court.  See below.

As long as you have not already been in front of a Judge, your best option may be to not pay the amount GC Services is seeking from you and instead get a court date in front of a judge and try to correct and/or fight the violations and lower the fine.

Suspended License?

If you fail to pay your traffic ticket on time or do not appear in court, the Court usually will get the DMV to suspend your license and charge you a huge amount of money and then refer your case to GC Services collection agency. Your best option may be to not pay the big fine that GC Services are seeking in the letter they sent to you.

Get your license back from GC Services

If you have not gone in front of a judge, and your ticket is with GC Services, we can often help get your license back, without paying anything to GC Services.

Keep the violations off your DMV Driver Record

A lot of people just call up GC Services and pay off this traffic ticket just to get it over with. The concerns we have with this approach are:-

  • You have essentially plead guilty to your ticket
  • You have probably spent a lot of money
  • You have also put the violations from your ticket on your DMV driver record which can possibly result in a point on your license and an increase in your insurance if your traffic ticket involves a moving violation.

Another approach, if you haven’t already seen a judge, is to:-

  • Get a court date through GC Services to see a judge in court so you can fight the charges and reduce the fines
  • Try to keep the violations including any moving violations off your DMV driver record.
Getting your license back

You used to be able to buy a DMV abstract to clear up your license quickly (as long as you had not Failed To Appear in court twice). However keep in mind, since the Los Angeles County Superior Court has stopped selling DMV Abstracts (as of April 6, 2015), this can sometimes make it harder and more difficult for some people to clear up their license quickly.  It can put people in a difficult position – pay GC Services the big fine amount to clear up the license hold or schedule a new court date which can be a couple of months away to see the Judge in order to try and fight the charges, get the fine lowered and the license hold cleared.

WE CAN DO ALL THIS FOR YOU.

How to handle your notice from GC Services for a traffic fine

If a traffic ticket has not been resolved in a timely manner, the Court refers the ticket to GC Services for all further action. When this happens, the Court will not schedule any court appearances, accept payments or process any correspondence related to the ticket.

If you received a notice from GC Services, and you want to schedule a court date, the court appearance date must be scheduled with GC Services, not the Traffic Clerk’s Office at the courthouse. You will have to deal directly with GC Services or alternatively, contact us and we can help if you have not already appeared in front of a judge.

It is better to go to court and fight

Once the case is referred to GC Services Limited Partnership for collection, additional costs will be added to what you face. When you are charged with a Failure to Appear (FTA), the government is trying to make a lot of money off you and it may be best to go to court to try to minimize fines and the charges instead of just paying it off.

A lot of times people receive a traffic ticket for something correctable like no proof of insurance (California VC 16028) when they did have insurance, no front plates (VC 5200) or license plates, expired registration (VC 4000), or tinted windows (California VC 26708, VC 26708.5) and it has turned into a Failure To Appear in court (FTA). A $25 court cost fee would have fixed this ticket but now GC Services sends you a letter asking for a lot of money.

If you are being charged over a $1,000 by GC Services and one of the charges was for no proof of insurance (California VC 16028) and you did have valid insurance but you did not have the proof of insurance in your car, call us so we can help you fight the fines and charges that you are facing from GC Services.

The problem is when you did not deal with your traffic ticket in a timely matter you were charged with a new offense, Failure to Appear (FTA) California Vehicle Code Section 40508 which is a misdemeanor charge and allows the government to charge you a lot of money for not taking care of this traffic ticket in a timely manner. It is better to go to court and try to do something about lowering this huge fine than to just pay it off.

Don't expect a reminder from the Court

Many times people fail to appear in court because they were expecting a courtesy notice or reminder of their court date.  Unfortunately, courts do not usually send courtesy letters.   When the police officer gets you to sign your traffic ticket, you may not realize that you are promising to appear in court by the due date on your traffic ticket.  When you do not appear in court by that date, the court will charge you with a Failure to Appear (VC 40508, VC 40509.5) and the DMV will most likely suspend your license and GC Services will now control your ticket, charging you a lot of money.

Check Your Traffic Ticket Status with GC Services Court Website

Traffic Ticket Search

If you have a ticket with GC Services it is a good idea to check the status of your ticket.

Go to the Los Angeles Superior Court website:-

Select the option to Search by Drivers License – and enter your driver’s license and date of birth.  The court website will pull up the status of all of your traffic tickets in Los Angeles County.

What your traffic ticket status means

VC 40509.5 Holds or Bench Warrant or Arrest Warrant

If the status of your traffic ticket says VC 40509.5 Holds or Bench Warrant or Arrest Warrant call us because we CAN help you!

We can help you. We can fight the traffic ticket and the big fines GC Services is trying to charge you and we can sometimes clear up your license suspension quickly so you can have a valid license again without you ever having to go to court and without you needing to pay the big fine to GC Services. We can also help you if there is an arrest warrant or bench warrant out for you.

Failure to Pay

If the status of your ticket says Failure to Pay WE CANNOT HELP YOU.

The only way out of a Failure to Pay that we know of is to go to court and pay your fine that GC Services is charging you. You cannot see a Judge again if your ticket status says Failure to Pay (previously called “Matter Set For Compliance”). Paying the GC Services fine is the only way to get your license back because a Failure to Pay means you have already seen a Judge about your ticket and you did not pay the fine or do the community service by the due date and now you face a very high fine for your failure to pay or do the community service by the due date. Failure to Pay is a terrible situation to be in because the only thing we can advise you to do is to pay the heavy fine to GC Services in order to get your license back.

Make sure you get a guarantee from GC Services (see below) that they will clear the DMV Hold on your license.
